An historic event took place today. President +Barack Obama used a mixture of social media and emerging technology to connect with five ordinary Americans through a Google+ Hangout.

Participants ( +Jennifer Wedel, +Christine Wolf, Adam Clark, +Ramon Ray and +Paras Patel) were selected to appear on a Google+ hangout with each other, a moderator from Google, +Steve Grove and the President, +Barack Obama, who appeared live from +The White House Continue reading President Obama Google+ Hangout Follow-Up Interview with Jennifer Wedel

My Reaction to +The White House Google+ Hangout with President Barack Obama

Over the last several months, Google has been pushing its new technology hard. They have been holding concerts in New York City, spending time with the Dalai Lama and hosting celebrities like David Beckham.

Initially these hangouts seemed extremely organic. Such as the one with +will.i.am, where I got a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to hangout with him virtually one-on-one and ask him about social media and where music is going with this new technology. That happened purely by coincidence, I was in the right place at the right time.

That’s how this network works and that’s how a lot of opportunities work. You have to be at the right place at the right time. Continue reading My Reaction to +The White House Google+ Hangout with President Barack Obama

The White House is Hanging Out Tomorrow

No word yet from +The White House, +Barack Obama or +Steve Grove as to whether or not my question made it into the queue or if I’ll be part of tomorrow’s hangout. But, nonetheless, it should be great to see the President using this incredible technology and platform to interact with some of our country’s citizens.

I really hope that politicians start to embrace and understand the power of connecting with their citizens and constituents using social media and things like hangouts that allows them to connect with people in their congressional districts while they’re busy working in Washington. GMail, Google Docs, Blogger, YouTube, Google+, the list of products seems almost endless, and odds are if you are a power user of one, you use many of them.

Over the last several years Google has been adding to the list of its publicly available product and moving people’s workflow to the cloud. Successful businesses are now being started with the simple power of tools like GMail, Google Docs, Google Sites and AdSense.

How to Create Opportunities for Yourself

There was a time when people said, “when an opportunity knocks, take it.” That was before there were seven billion people on the planet.

Before technology so rapidly advanced, things were a lot different. Peoples connections weren’t as broad and usually couldn’t fill more than a Rolodex. Finding work was much easier, because the selection pool was much smaller.

The Misinformation Age

Do you remember 10 years ago when people said, “don’t trust everything you read on the Internet?” It seems that statement has almost come full circle as uninformed politicians and news commentators tackle subjects like SOPA and Google’s new consolidated privacy policy.

We now live in an age where our country’s (and world’s) economic engine runs on the ability for people to easily connect around the globe. This is not done with wireless telegraph, overseas phone transmissions or airmail, but by a network of computers connected through a series of switches, routers and other transmission devices.

Thousands of people, businesses, brands, products and services create a social media presence every day. Whether its a Twitter account, Facebook page or Google+ page, they want to make sure that you can find their product in all corners of the web.

Creating a social media campaign requires commitment, communication and most importantly, listening.

Have you ever tried having a conversation with a brick wall? Not so much fun, huh? In fact, if you tried talking to a brick wall in front of your friends, people might think you’re crazy.

The playoff season in American football is a great time for sports fans. The number of teams left in competition has been whittled down and fans must choose another team to advance. Since there are left teams left in the mix, there is more common conversation to be had amongst co-workers and friends.

A safety from one of the teams that didn’t make it this year, Chris Harris, of the Detroit Lions, decided to use his downtime as an opportunity to engage his followers and help create a positive image for his brand.

How to Do Almost Anything on Google+

Over the last several months I have spent a lot of time coming up with ways to use Google+ for your business, organization or personal brand. There are lots of things that I have shared and some that many people have had helpful.

From using the Hangout feature, to developing your own page or determining how people enjoy using certain features through the research I have conducted. There is a list that I have maintained on my profile page that contains most of the important information I have shared with the community. I have offered all of this information and follow-up conversation with anyone that was interested at absolutely no cost.
