How to use Google+ Hangouts for Business

There is nothing more personal than having a face-to-face conversation. Exchanging e-mails is impersonal, speaking on the phone is a step up, but having a face-to-face conversation allows you to see people’s reactions and non-verbal communication.

Anyone that has had to interview someone for a job knows that body language indicates a lot about a prospective candidate’s persona. The same came be said when it comes to sales. Does your potential customer have his arms cross? Are they paying attention to what you’re saying? Are they smiling every time you mention their name?

Add the Official Google +1 Badge to Your Blog

If you are like me, you are always trying to find creative ways to drive more traffic to your website. One of those ways is through social media. Sure you have one of the 3,000 different social media tools for your blog that allow people to Tweet, Facebook, Digg and all of that, but do you have something as simple and elegant as the official Google +1 badge?

The badge is fairly simple to install, even if you have a custom theme on your WordPress or Blogger (or whatever CMS). There are very simple instructions from Google on how to install the badge, and once its there, all of your visitors will see the Google+ profile avatars of other friends that have +1ed a page.

Head to https://www.petergmcdermott.com/ to check it out. For instructions and the code, visit Google’s official +1 website here: http://www.google.com/intl/en/webmasters/+1/button/index.html

12+ Questions about how people use Google+ Hangouts

Over the last few weeks I have started a number of pages on Google+ to test out different things and try to connect different types of niche audiences. I have enjoyed the opportunity to bring others together and watch some great things happen.

Over the course of the last few months I have been paying particular attention to the way that people use certain features of Google+. One of those all-important features in the Hangout feature. Yes, we have had Skype, Facetime, MSN and even NetMeeting to do face-to-face conversations from around the globe, but traditionally these were only done with people we had already established relationships with. Google has given the online world the opportunity to connect with virtually anyone with a webcam and a microphone and the results have been simply amazing.

In an effort to learn more about how users utilize this component and the features within it, I set out to conduct a survey much like the one I did previously (see Google+ in Numbers) to find out exactly what users are doing. I want to extend a very personal thank you to all of the users that participated in the survey. Without your valuable time, there would be no results to publish. So without further adieu…
